Jamie Otis revealed on Sunday, September 2, that she’d had an early miscarriage due to chemical pregnancy, shortly after she shared a photo of a positive pregnancy test.
The Married at First Sight star, 32, revealed the sad news on Instagram, sharing a photo with her 1-year-old daughter, Henley Grace.
“Sorry I’ve been MIA, this very bizarre positive pregnancy test then negative test then faint positive lines gave me hope that Gracie was going to become a big sis in 9 months, but the night before last I began having terrible contraction-like pains & spotting. Then over the night full blown everything — if you know what i mean,” the Bachelor alum wrote. “I’m a nurse so I had my suspicions; but my midwife confirmed I had a chemical pregnancy.”
According to Healthline, a chemical pregnancy is an early pregnancy loss that occurs shortly after implantation of a fertilized egg. The exact cause is unknown.
Otis, who had a miscarriage in 2016 when she was four months pregnant with her first child — a boy named Johnathan — with husband Doug Hehner, had posted a photo of what looked like a positive pregnancy test on Instagram on Friday, August 31. “If I stare long enough I see the faintest ‘+’ sign,” she wrote, asking followers to send “baby dust, prayers & positivity” her way.
The reality TV star, who met her husband on season 1 of Married at First Sight, previously wrote about her heartbreak over the loss of her son in an emotional blog post but told fans on Sunday that she and Hehner are going to keep trying to give their little girl a sibling.
“I don’t know why some people have it seemingly SO easy to get preggers & carry their babies to term and others struggle? What i do know is that i am so, so thankful for this little girl [and her daddy] right here,” she wrote of the photo showing her daughter dozing in her arms. “It’s like she knew mommy was in so much pain bc she just wanted to be held and snuggled all night long.”
“We have to wait a cycle before trying again, but I am on a mission to make Gracie a big sis now,” she added, asking, “has this happened to anyone else where you go through a loss & then all you want – the only healing thought – is to become pregnant with a healthy pregnancy?! This happened to me after our sweet Johnathan & the same feelings have come back.”
Otis concluded her post by thanking her followers for their support. “I feel like I have a million sisters/friends who i call my ‘frans’ right here & I appreciate you, your prayers, your thoughts & words of love for me & my little family more than you’ll ever know!”
